Hello
My name is David and I am Anne's son.
Thank you for all of your kind comments - which Mum would have been touched by, but disapproved of!
She was ill for about six months and during this time was incredibly brave. I was told in no uncertain terms that I was not to be uspet!
The last message was to not mope but to carry on, be happy and to remember the good things and times.
My father and I are trying hard to comply.
She would want you to as well!

Thank you, David. Condolences to your family; your mother was a charming and erudite woman and those words sound exactly like the Anne I had the privilege of meeting.
She leaves a legacy of work that you can all be proud of, both fiction and non-fiction.

David, I met your mother when I was a new HMB author, awed by actually meeting the legendary Anne Weale. She was warm and welcoming, told me to call her Jay, and put me completely at ease.
Over the years, we corresponded often, first by fax, then by e-mail. We argued often, too, but one of Jay's greatest charms was her willingness to take a position and speak out on it.
She spoke often of you and your accomplishments and, after you married, she talked about your wife and your children with obvious affection. She always talked about your dad and his climbing expeditions. Her pride in all of you was a joy to observe.
You're right, of course. She'd scold us for speaking sentimentally but I do want you to know that she will be missed.

I hope you can inform us somehow if her work is reprinted or a posthumous one published. She enriched my life and that of my sisters.
I enjoyed your mother's work for many years. I am missing her column has it was one of the highlights of my day.

I was terribly saddened to hear of Anne's death.
She was one of my mother's closest correspondents for many years, a friendship which ended only with my own mother's death.
It was not unusual for them to fax each other several 3 - 4 page letters over the course of a single morning. How either of them managed to get so much writing work done on top of that, I cannot imagine!

I have not been visiting her blog for some time and I am realy in shock to discover she is no longer with us. My deepest condolences. I have been her greatest fan since I was a teenager and I only discovered her blog a year ago.

Thank you for letting us know, and condolences to you and your father. Her books meant a lot to me from my early teens to now, helping to shape many of my interests (I loved how her characters had a variety of interests from needlework to climbing to books or the sea) and my ideas about how life should be lived. She will be missed but remembered.
Sorry to hear about your mom's passing. At lease twenty years ago I read All My Wordly Goods and loved, loved it. Many times I have tried to find it in various libraries and failed. Since then I have purchased editions of her Harlequin Presents stories in a used book store in South Carolina, USA. I am trying to locate copies of All My Wordly Goods and the other Longwarden novels on ebay. I always wondered if she was still writing. Sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to learn this sad news, especially so long after it happened. I came to know Anne - Jay - whilst writing the Dr Keyboard column in The Times, and she was one of my founding subscribers. I miss her questions and comments greatly.
